I disagreed with this judgment. It is routine and indeed important for scientific commentaries to engage in more than “a nod” to larger issues. Besides I did what I was originally asked to do, before the editor forgot what he had originally asked me to do. In any event, I didn’t have more time to spend on this essay. So I withdrew the submission. Thanks to the publishing power of the internet, here’s the commentary anyway.
